Graphic - Luke 20.19-26 (God & Caesar)

In this episode from the Gospel of Luke, we see the religious leaders setting a trap for Jesus in the form of a question: Should the Jews pay a tribute tax to Caesar?

It doesn't seem like an earth-shattering question for us, but this either-or question was designed to get Jesus in trouble however he answered it.

On the one hand, if he was a revolutionary (he was talking about the kingdom--that is, the revolution--of God), then he would say that the Jews should not pay tribute to Caesar. In that case, they could report him to the authorities for sedition.

If on the other hand, he said that they should pay the tribute tax, he would be seen as a traitor to the cause of the people.

Jesus' answer, however, is brilliant.

We'll look at this interaction and Jesus' answer, and what it means for our lives today.

We hope you can join us in person this Sunday at 10am at the Hilton Garden Inn.
