What if your allegiance to Jesus costs you everything?
One of the most unforgettable films I have ever seen is Terrence Malick’s A Hidden Life.
It tells the true story of Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian peasant farmer living during the rise of Nazi Germany. When Hitler demands that every Austrian swear an oath of allegiance to the Führer, Franz refuses.
His friends and community and even his priest urge him to compromise, “for the sake of your family.” But Franz cannot. His conscience is captive to Christ.
And that choice costs him everything—his freedom, his home, and eventually, his life.
What if your allegiance to Jesus led you to the precipice of losing everything? Your reputation, your relationships, even your life?
Jesus has some reassuring words for us, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Join us this Sunday as we contemplate these words of Jesus and weigh the implications of them for how we live in this world.
We will meet on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Rivergate (5422 Cole Lane, College Station). Here’s the link to the Digital Worship Guide.
Grace and peace,
Pastor John
