Mercy Hill Sunday Gathering - September 25, 2022
In his book, What's So Amazing About Grace?, Phillip Yancey tells a story of his friend in Chicago who worked with the down-and-out.
He relayed a terrible situation:
A prostitute came to me in wretched straits, homeless, sick, unable to buy food for her two-year old daughter. Through sobs she told me about [what she had done to survive]... I could hardly bear hearing their sordid story.... I had no idea what to say to this woman.
At last I asked if she ever thought of going to a church for help. I will never forget the look of pure, naive shock that crossed her face.
"Church!" she cried. "Why would I ever go there I was already feeling terrible about myself. They'd just make me feel worse."
Ugh! How have we gotten this so wrong? Especially when we claim to follow the One who had a heart for the down-and-out, the Friend of sinners?
Join us this Sunday as we look at a crucial aspect of the mission that Jesus gave to us, not only of proclaiming his Good News, but embodying the Good News in acts of kindness, mercy, and healing.
Here's a copy of the worship folder.
We hope to see you at 10am this Sunday at The Hilton Garden Inn!
