If you plan on joining us in person

***NOTE: In line with the Governor Greg Abbott's executive order requiring all Texans to wear a face covering in public spaces, the leadership of Mercy Hill Church is requiring all participants 10 years of age and older to wear a face covering while attending our worship service at the Hilton Garden Inn (this is a requirement of our hotel as well).

Please read through this page for our protocols so you know what to expect as we gather for worship at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Here is a copy of our worship service to print out to bring along with you.

If you plan on joining us online

You can access our service online through our Youtube Livestream

Here is a copy of our worship service to use to follow along at home.

And here is what we'll be studying in the Scriptures this Sunday...

God & the Pandemic5

This last week, the US surpassed 200,000 coronavirus related deaths, a grim mile-marker that we would rather not see. And while we wait for a vaccine to be developed, the number is sure to rise more.

How should we live in a time of a global pandemic?

Lyman Stone in an articled entitled, “Christianity Has Been Handling Pandemics for 2000 Years," writes,

“To find moral resources to tackle COVID-19, both its possible death toll and the fear that stalks our communities alongside the disease, we have to look at the resources built in from the past. For me, this means examining how people of my tradition, Christians…, have handled plagues of the past…. The distinctive approach to epidemics Christians have adopted over time is worth dusting off. The Christian response to plugs begins with some of Jesus’ most famous teachings….”

This Sunday, we’re going to look at what is perhaps the most famous story Jesus ever told.

It’s a story that shocked everyone in the audience because it went against what everyone considered common sense: the story that has become known to us as the story of the Good Samaritan.

We have studied this passage before at MHC, but I want us to “dust it off” and examine it again in light of our current cultural moment, and dare to ask some defining questions that should help define us and our lives in a time of the global pandemic.

And we’ll see how Christ’s teachings have informed the way Christians have handled plagues in the past.
