Scripture: Jeremiah 9:23–24

In our last study, we launched our series by noting the memorable speech by MKL Jr, who spoke with the courage and conviction of a modern day prophet as invited the nation to dream with him of a day when there will be no more injustice. Much of what motivated him was the biblical notion that he captured perfectly when he said,

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Unchecked injustice in any society is more than just a blindspot, it’s a warning sign of the soul of a nation.

In this study, we’re going to look at the words of an ancient prophet named Jeremiah that Jesus of Nazareth not only studied, but in many ways emulated.

Both men stood up in the Temple in Jerusalem and spoke bold, powerful, audacious words that would expose the religious leaders of their time as hopelessly corrupt.

And both men courageously challenged people to connect the dots between what they say they believe and how they live their lives.

Jeremiah was known as the “weeping prophet,” because he wept over the hardness and cruelty of his people. Jesus would later lament over Jerusalem too.
