Scripture: Luke 9:1–9

For the movie poster of The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe, the tagline reads: “Evil has reigned for 100 years….” The land of Narnia is suffering under the control of the evil White Witch. Her ruthless reign brings a cold chill not only over the land of Narnia, but also over the lives of everyone living in her kingdom. “It was always winter, but never Christmas.”

But one day, Spring begins to appear in Narnia as the snow thaws, flowers spring to life, and birds begin to sing again. Father Christmas who had not been seen in recent memory shows up in Narnia one day dispensing gifts.

Father Christmas explains, “Aslan is on the move!” Aslan is of course the Great Lion King, the long awaited Hero of the story who has come to break the spell of the White Witch.

If you had been a first century Jew living in Israel under the ruthless reign of Rome and feeling the cold chill run down your spine whenever you saw Rome’s soldiers, you would have been filled with the same sense of excitement and anticipation that was captured by the phrase, “Aslan is on the move” whenever you heard Jesus speak about the Kingdom of God.

As a bold and prophetic speaker, Jesus went about speaking to the crowds saying in effect, God is on the move. That day in which you are longing for God to come and break the evil spell that enslaves people in darkness, and to usher in a new day of truth, justice, and shalom is in fact happening right now in and through me. The Revolution is here.
