The Apostle Paul has been encouraging his friends living in the Roman colony of Philippi to live out their citizenship in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Jesus (Philippians 1:27). Now, he reminds them that their citizenship is in heaven, and from it they await their Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. And this had radical implications for how they lived out the gospel, and it does for us today as well.
