Last Fall at Mercy Hill, we were realizing that we had fallen into a rut as a community of faith. Old habits and ways of thinking about church settled in.
We also realized an essential element had to be present for us to grow into a healthy community, namely, we needed all hearts to be engaged.
And the congregation responded! Prayers were offered alongside repentance. The change of venue has helped us get to know each other better.
And yet there is so much more to be had....
Jesus came preaching about the Kingdom of heaven--literally a new world order in which our loves are rightly ordered: loving God first and our neighbors as ourselves--a love that extends even to our enemies.
In the wake of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the early Christians sought to put into practice Jesus' new way of being human marked by this radical, other-centered love.
Jesus' revolution didn't just have implications for individuals in their relationship with God, but it changed the way individuals related to one another.
This Sunday, we launch a new series called, "One Another-ing," as we devote some time and space to reflecting together on some of the key New Testament directives to the early followers of Jesus as they sought to embody Jesus' new way of being human.
Here's what is on the horizon for us:
- Let Us Love One Another
- Let Us Welcome One Another
- Let Us Show Hospitality To One Another
- Let Us Serve One Another
- Let us Encourage One Another
- Let us Exhort One Another
- Let us Confess to One Another
- Let Us Forgive One Another
- Let Us Pray for One Another
- Let Us Counsel One Another
We'll see how these are not only the natural overflow of love for one another, but also how they are essential to the health of our community of faith and our participation in the mission of Jesus.
Listen in as we seek to learn and put into practice Jesus' new way of being human together.
